Ray Vinopal Commits to Michigan
Michigan picked up its 22nd commit on Friday when Ohio safety Ray Vinopal verballed to Michigan. This commit was a bit unexpected because Vinopal wasn’t really on many people’s radars. With Michigan seemingly running out of spots in its recruiting class, especially considering there are a few relatively big names reportedly leaning toward U-M, getting a commit from a 2-star with very few offers wasn’t exactly expected.
Vinopal is a 2-star, as mentioned, with offers from Michigan, Bowling Green, and Kent State. That doesn’t exactly sound all that impressive, but let’s see what ESPN has to say about him.
Vinopal is a productive two-way player at the high school level; very athletic and instinctive. Looks more natural at running back than he does in the defensive secondary but feel his physical tools may project best down the line at safety. Is put-together and well-defined but will need added bulk and improved power through his hips and lower-body to play in the box at the next level. Lacks desired length and height as a high-point safety as well. He is an active run defender who will come down and fill hard; provides good secondary support. Shows adequate closing burst and makes solid contact as a tackler with better-than-adequate pop.
I guess that sounds a little better, but this is probably one of the least-exciting commits Michigan has received in a while. Even so, sometimes you just have to trust that the coaches have found a diamond in the rough. Star rankings obviously aren’t the end all, be all for how good a player can be, but his offer list is a bit concerning. Again, though, let’s just hope that Vinopal has been overlooked and Michigan found a sleeper.

Oh good lord. How the mighty have fallen. Do you realize that Michigan has 8 recruits that weigh more than 200 pounds and only 2 recruits more than 250 pounds? What a joke. If Devin Gardner wasn’t in this class, it would be the laughing stock of the big 10. RichRod is JLS reincarnated.
