Three Players Make All-Big Ten First Team; Zoltan Up for Ray Guy Award

Zoltan Mesko, Brandon Graham, and Donovan Warren were named to the All-Big first team on Monday.  Mesko and Graham were first-team selections by both the coaches and the media, whereas Warren was a first-team selection by the media and a second-team selection by the coaches.  Stephen Schilling was named an honorable mention by both the coaches and the media, and David Moosman was named the winner of Michigan’s sportsmanship award.

That wasn’t the only honor Zoltan Mesko received on Monday, because he was named a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, which goes to the nation’s top punter.  Mesko is one of three finalists, and we will find out the winner of the award on December 10 during ESPN’s college football awards show.  Former Michigan punter Hayden Epstein was actually a finalist for the award back in 2000.  Epstein was Michigan’s kicker and punter, but I always remembered him more for his kicking rather than his punting, so I was surprised to learn that.  Mesko was a semifinalist for the award last season, but he didn’t make the final cut, unlike this year.
