Here are my thoughts on this week’s poll:

  • I know I said last week that I probably won’t change the top team in the poll, but I was wrong.  After watching Alabama control South Carolina on Saturday night, which followed Florida barely hanging on at home against Arkansas, I decided to move ‘Bama to the top spot.
  • After the top three, I did some general remodeling of my poll by moving undefeated Cincinnati up to #4 and undefeated Iowa up to #5.  USC moves up a few spots after winning at Notre Dame.  Yes, I realize Boise State is still undefeated, but I’m really not on the Broncos bandwagon at all.  In fact, a TCU win over BYU likely means that the Horned Frogs will be the top non-BCS conference team in the poll next week.
  • Miami and LSU dropped due to other teams’ moving around.
  • Georgia Tech is up 11 spots to #11 after beating Virginia Tech, which is now ranked #14.
  • Other teams moved up in the poll due to a total of 6 teams dropping out of the top 25.  That made way for Texas Tech, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Utah, Arizona, and Central Michigan.  I don’t usually drop that many teams out of the poll for losing, but I wanted to mix things up a bit and include some new teams in the top 25.  Since many of the teams that lost were toward the bottom of the poll anyway, it wasn’t a tough decision to simply replace them.
