A few quick thoughts on this week’s poll:

  • The biggest positive mover is Miami, which had a big win over Georgia Tech.  Couple that with the fact that Florida State demolished BYU on the road and that win is looking even better.  I’m thinking moving them into the top 5 may have been a bit of an overreaction, but after Florida, Alabama, and Texas, it’s really up in the air as far as what the order should be in the rest of the top 10.
  • With its loss to Washington, USC dropped to 11th in the poll.  LSU also moved up to 7th, as their win at Washington is now looking pretty impressive.
  • BYU, as mentioned, got demolished by Florida State on its home field.  I dropped them to 19th, which makes me wish I would have kept Oklahoma above them the whole time.  The Sooners are rolling with their new QB, and I don’t think BYU would have beat them if Sam Bradford had never gotten hurt.
  • I only dropped Nebraska two spots, as Virginia Tech only beat them at the very end of the game (which was in Blacksburg, by the way).
  • Georgia Tech dropped out of the poll, which is mainly because of its loss to Miami.  Although I obviously think Miami is a good team, I wanted to bring Florida State back into the top 25.  Besides, Georgia Tech struggled against Clemson, which is its only quality win this season.

FSU needs, needs to be above BYU. Other than that I like the ballot.

How can you rank BYU above Florida St. by so many spots after FSU destroyed them at home? You kinda jumped the gun on Miami, but they might end up in the Top 5 soon enough. BYU is getting way to much credit everywhere for the win over Bradford-less Oklahoma. USC loss to Washington is much worse than Ohio State losing to USC, but you can’t justify ranking Ohio State ahead of the Trojans either. This is the exact reason why rankings should not come out until early-mid October.
