Monday Quick Hits: David Molk Breaks Foot, Out 4-6 Weeks

  • Starting center David Molk broke his foot during the Eastern Michigan game and will be out 4-6 weeks.  He had surgery on the injured foot earlier today.
  • Replacing Molk will be David Moosman, who is going to return this week from an injury.  He separated his shoulder against Notre Dame and missed the EMU game as a result, but he is going to play on Saturday and will slide to the left from right guard to play center.  John Ferrara, who filled in for Moosman at RG on Saturday, will likely get the start again this week, though Tim McAvoy and Rocko Khoury could provide some competition for the starting spot.
  • Brandon Minor’s ankle is still bothering him, which is why he left the Eastern Michigan game early on.  Minor is considered day-to-day and could probably play through the injury if he had to.
  • Rich Rodriguez was upset with the Big Ten’s decision to suspend Jonas Mouton, especially since they didn’t let him know about said decision until Thursday night.  Rodriguez said that now that a precedent has been set, he is going to make sure there is no double standard for other similar incidents.
  • Michigan moved up to 23rd in the AP Poll and 22nd in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
  • Carlos Brown is the Big Ten’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Troy Woolfolk jokingly let Brown know that his father, Butch, still holds the record for the longest run in Michigan history (92 yards).  Brown replied by saying that there are still nine games left for him to break that record.
  • Ron English didn’t look very happy when he shook Rich Rodriguez’s hand after the game on Saturday.
  • The Michigan Daily put together a great piece on Michigan’s players from Trotwood, Ohio.  This comes after their excellent story last week on Michigan’s Pahokee players.
  • Maize & Blog recently interviewed Devin Gardner.
  • Mario Manningham had a breakout game last night, catching 10 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown in the Giants’ 33-31 win over the Cowboys.
  • Michigan’s 2010 basketball recruiting class is currently ranked as the 14th best in the nation by ESPN.
  • Michigan’s basketball schedule this season is the 8th-toughest in the country, according to SI.
  • Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd is out for the rest of the regular season because of a broken collar bone.

Ron is an intense guy. His team just lost, so it does not surprise me that he did not have a smile on his face. Although he probably does not like the fact the RR came in cleaned house after Carr left, I don?t want to believe he still carries a grudge, especially now considering he is a head coach of his own team.

On the other hand, if he does? Then who cares, he was not qualified at the time to get the head gig at UM so he and Carr need to get over it.

Over the past couple of years it has been apparent the team was fractured between those who still supported the old regime, and those who were trying to buy into RR?s philosophy. The transition has been tough, and after almost 2 years it seems like they have finally turned the corner. So I hope the folks from the old regime understand this and just move on for the good of everyone.

Right on ST… and I hate to say it but it seems that Carr hasn’t been exactly shy about working in covert shots at RR. Whether it’s TV in Grand Rapids or print articles in Athens, Carr is coming through loud and clear about his dislike for RR.

I don’t know either one of them so I don’t get it. But personally, if Carr would have put in the plays he did against Florida in the regular season too, I suspect there would be a lot less “fire Carr” floating around.
