Air Force Upsets Michigan in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament
Despite outshooting Air Force 43-13, Michigan lost to the Falcons 2-0 earlier today. Michigan’s issues with being able to score came early in the first period when Air Force killed off a 5-on-3, and it was all downhill from there. Air Force’s Andrew Volkening played his butt off and didn’t allow Michigan to score a single goal. He was tested all night long, but Michigan just couldn’t get one past him.
This is a very disappointing finish to a once promising season. Michigan struggled (by its usual standards) through most of the first half of the season, but it got things turned around in 2009 and put together an awesome run to finish second in the CCHA. I guess we should have known something bad was going to happen today after the debacle that was the CCHA title game. Michigan was up 2-0 on Notre Dame before giving up 5 straight goals. That lackluster performance in the second half of last week’s game carried into today, as Michigan went scoreless ever since they went up 2-0 on ND.
Here’s to hoping things go better next season so we can watch Michigan play in the Frozen Four at Ford Field.

that was a brutal game to listen to, especially the way Al Randall gets overexcited every time the puck goes anywhere near the net…43 shots on goal, and nothing to show for it? ouch….
Even more brutal was living in Colorado Springs and listening to the assclowns on AM 1300… “Mike” Mitera and Pah-la-shay?!
