Jordan Barnes Decommits; Pearlie Graves to Follow?

Indiana linebacker Jordan Barnes decommitted from Michigan today. Barnes is a three-star recruit that is rated in the mid-to-high 20′s at his position. He was seen as a soft commitment ever since he started seriously looking at Alabama and Purdue last month, signaling that he wasn’t completely sold on Michigan. Now, with less than two months until signing day, Barnes has opted to re-open his recruitment, and it doesn’t sound like he will keep Michigan on his short list.

Although it always sucks when a recruit decommits, losing Barnes doesn’t hurt that much. Michigan appears to have bigger concerns right now, such as the status of defensive tackle Pearlie Graves and quarterback Shavodrick Beaver. According to HuskerJournal.com, Graves has also re-opened his recruitment and will make a decision on signing day. There are quotes from Graves in the article from that site, but there is nothing from him directly saying that he has decommitted, so I’m not going to start panicking about him just yet.

As far as Shavodrick Beaver goes, there is some concern over him due to something he put on his MySpace page (something like “bad feeling about Michigan”) recently. I’m not even going to bother speculating too much since we could simply be misinterpreting what he said, especially considering he has “those who stay will be champions” on his page as well. I’m definitely worried about his status as a Michigan commit, but all that concern is based on something that may be harmless. Stay tuned for more on him in the coming days.

It would appear that a number of the immature recruits that do not really know what they want are decommitting. The same thing goes for some that are transfering. I believe some issues maybe the bad season and for a couple bad character (not all) but early decommits are better than late ones.

Well they are just kids…..but someone (parents/guardians and HS coaches) should advice them to not make commitments without going through the whole process. Make up a shortlist, officials, check them out and then make a decision, it will be the best one and there will be no questions of decommit after that.

One reason for early commitments could be to just end the damn process…..but this could always lead to second thoughts, especially if your school of choice has a down year. Also it could be due to peer pressure…see other kids committing and you kinda feel left out and think your school might not have a slot left!!!

They got to wait it out..that will be best for everybody involved.

Honestly, I think that Pearlie Graves will stick with Michigan in the end. However, If he does wind up decommiting, It may just mean that we have a better chance of bagging Will Campbell all over again.
