Michigan Advances to New York City

Michigan is headed to New York City thanks to its 76-56 win over Northeastern. Manny Harris was the player of the game yet again, as he scored 26 points, had 10 rebounds, and came 2 assists shy of a triple-double. Northeastern only trailed by 6 at the half, but Michigan simply took over in the final 20 minutes and pulled away.

Great free throw shooting helped the Wolverines turn this into a very comfortable win, as they shot 25-26 from the line. This was a surprising stat considering the team had struggled with free throws in the previous two games. I don’t know what changed, but I hope they keep shooting that well the remainder of the season.

The victory over Northeastern means that Michigan will play at Madison Square Garden next Thursday night, most likely against UCLA. The Bruins still have to beat Miami (Ohio) tonight, but the chances of an upset are very, very slim. The other two teams that will be in New York are Southern Illinois and Duke, who will play in the first semifinal next Thursday. Michigan’s game will likely start shortly after 9 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN2.

Regardless of what Michigan does against UCLA, they will play another game on Friday. Hopefully it will be for the 2K Sports Classic championship, but chances are it will be for third-place.

UCLA won 64-59 over Miami (OH) and played pretty poor the majority of the game.
