Tuesday Quick Hits: More Injuries for the Hockey Team

  • I have received quite a few e-mails asking why Justin Feagin hasn’t played quarterback for Michigan yet in a game. It’s pretty simple, actually. Feagin has been moved to the slot, and that is the position that presents the best opportunity for him to get playing time in the future. Rich Rodriguez did say in yesterday’s press conference that Feagin would likely get a few reps at QB in practice, but his only hope of playing in an actual game is as a slot receiver.

Many wonder why Feagin isn’t being given an opportunity when things supposedly can’t get much worse. Well, they can and would if Feagin played QB. He is the perfect definition of a raw talent. He reportedly has taken longer than expected to fully learn the spread offense, and even if he did have it down, his mechanics still need a lot of work anyways. That is why Feagin hasn’t and probably won’t ever play quarterback for Michigan.

  • Defensemen on the hockey team are dropping like flies. Many players have suffered injuries, but the most serious of them all didn’t even happen on the ice. Steve Kampfer got hurt late Saturday night/early Sunday morning off the ice, and if the rumor about what happened is true, he won’t be back anytime soon.
  • Former Michigan defenseman Jack Johnson, who plays for the Los Angeles Kings, is also injured.
  • It appears that student basketball ticket sales aren’t going too well. The “Blue Rage,” a cheering section for non-students, is being offered full season tickets this year in the bleachers. Last year Blue Rage members were able to buy a package that included tickets to three games. The fact that they now can buy season tickets makes it pretty obvious that not many students have purchased them.
  • Toledo wide receiver Nick Moore, who had a whopping 20 catches against Michigan on Saturday, was arrested early Sunday morning for disorderly conduct intoxication.
  • South Florida coach Jim Leavitt took another shot at Rich Rodriguez. Seriously, what the hell is this guy’s problem?
  • Braylon Edwards racked up 154 yards and a touchdown on 5 catches in Cleveland’s win against the Giants last night. Something worth noting is that Edwards had a Penn State shirt on in an interview that was shown during the game. I have no idea why he was wearing a Penn State shirt, but my guess is that he lost a bet, although that wouldn’t really make too much sense since the game hasn’t been played yet. Maybe he’s just planning ahead.
  • Steve Breaston caught 8 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown on Sunday in Arizona’s win over the Cowboys. He was filling in for the injured Anquan Boldin and definitely did a great job.
  • Two of the nation’s top safeties in the class of 2009, Craig Loston and Devonte Holloman, both decommitted from Clemson after the news came out that Tommy Bowden was no longer the team’s head coach. Loston will likely end up at LSU, but we should keep an eye on what Holloman decides to do. He picked Clemson over Michigan back in May, so hopefully Rich Rodriguez goes after him, because U-M needs all the help it can get at safety.
  • Tajh Boyd, a highly regarded dual-threat quarterback, decommitted from West Virginia.
