Thursday Quick Hits: Williams Out, McGuffie Doubtful for Purdue Game

  • Safety Mike Williams is out for the Purdue game, and Sam McGuffie is doubtful. Both players are still recovering from the concussions they got against Michigan State.
  • As MGoBlog points out, there is some hope for Michigan in their next three games, especially against Purdue on Saturday. There is hope because the Boilermakers are 2-6 and their starting quarterback may be someone that was a running back earlier this season. With both Curtis Painter and Joey Elliott suffering shoulder injuries, former Orchard Lake St. Mary’s QB Justin Siller may be the starter on Saturday.

Siller is a dual-threat QB that worries me only because of his running abilities. His passing skills are less of a concern, but I do worry that he will run wild on Michigan’s defense. Even so, you have to imagine there is only so much a third-string QB can do, especially when you consider he was a running back earlier this season.

  • Unsurprisingly, I won the BlogPoll’s award for Mr. Numb Existence this week.
  • UM Hoops has the latest on the free student basketball tickets policy. Nothing is official yet, but plans are for an e-mail to go out in the coming days outlining the plan. If nothing changes from what I heard yesterday, UM Hoops’ summation of the policy is pretty much dead on.
  • UM Hoops also has a couple pictures of the new basketball hoops.
  • Basketball Fan Night will be held on November 7.
  • Cazzie Russell was interviewed recently by Basketball Interview Challenge.
  • Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio called out Rob Parker for accusing backup quarterback Kirk Cousins of being involved in the fight that involved football and hockey players. Parker made the accusation during “Sports Final Edition” on WDIV last Sunday. Ingham County’s prosecutor cleared Cousins of being involved in the fight, which came as no surprise considering how little credibility Parker has.

Each week Parker throws out rumors on “Sports Final Edition,” and they almost always are bogus. Two rumors from the past involving Michigan come to mind. He once said that Mario Manningham was suspended for a lengthy period of time due to legal issues, yet that wasn’t the case at all. Another time Parker stated that Manny Harris was caught at a drug house in Detroit. That was a very harsh accusation, and surprise, surprise, it turned out to be a lie. I’m glad somebody finally called him out, because he has been pulling this crap for years.
