Thursday Quick Hits: Miller and Robinson to Visit on October 25
- If you’re a student that ordered hockey tickets, you can pick them up today from 4-7 at the BBQ on the track near Yost.
- According to ESPN, 2010 commit Ricardo Miller and Marvin Robinson are going to visit Michigan when they play Michigan State on October 25.
- Assuming Michigan makes it to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, you can get tickets through the New York Alumni Club. UM Hoops has the details.
- This week’s BlogPoll is out.
- Since Charlie Weis is injured, he is having his assistants make sure that no players hit him again. I can understand that, but this is taking it way too far:
One of the hardest hits Purdue running back Kory Sheets took Saturday against Notre Dame was delivered by someone who hasn’t donned a football jersey in 15 years, Irish assistant strength and conditioning coach Rick Perry.
Sheets careened into the Irish sideline during ND’s 38-21 conquest of the Boilermakers Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium, where Perry — a former football player at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) — tackled him. [...]
Weis quickly explained to Sheets that Perry was simply doing his job, specifically protecting the Irish head coach on the sideline from any further physical damage. [...]
“(Sheets) was a little bit away from me,” Weis said. “I think Rick was being a little overprotective. But I’d rather him err on the side of caution, to tell you the truth.”
If you’re worried about getting hit again to the point where your assistant coach is tackling a player, maybe you should go coach from the press box. It’s absolutely ridiculous that a coach would tackle a player, especially to “protect” Charlie Weis. I’d be pretty interested to see what Kory Sheets’ and Purdue fans’ reaction to this incident is.

That coach from ND and the school itself should be disciplined by the NCAA for inappropriate contact with a player. It was fortunate that an all out brawl did not take place as a result. I agree, Weiss should have been in the press box if there was a concern about injury.
Perhaps Charlie was concerned Sheets might slap him in the face.
