Jeremy Jackson Commits to Michigan

Ann Arbor Huron wide receiver Jeremy Jackson, the son of Michigan running backs coach Fred Jackson, committed to U-M last night. Jackson is another 2010 recruit and becomes the second prospect to join that class. Ricardo Miller, a receiver from Florida, is the other, and another (Marvin Robinson) may be about to commit as well.

Although Jeremy Jackson is the son of a Michigan coach, there was no guarantee that he would end up at Michigan. After all, when you have an offer list that includes Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Stanford, Texas, and Wisconsin, it definitely would be tempting to go somewhere else. However, Jeremy decided last night to stay home and go to Michigan.

Considering Jackson is the son of a Michigan coach and has been around the program his entire life, this commit does not come as a big surprise. The timing does a little bit since it seemed like was going to look around, but he decided to pull the trigger to get the recruiting process over with. As mentioned already, Jackson is the second member of the 2010 recruiting class, and if Marvin Robinson’s MySpace page is any indication, a third is on the way. If Robinson does indeed commit, the start to the 2010 recruiting class would be unbelievable, especially since it’s only October 2008.

With Ricardo Miller, one of the best 2010 wide receivers from Florida, already in the fold, adding Jackson means that Michigan is going to be set at that position for the ’10 recruiting class. Michigan will still recruit slot receivers since Miller and Jackson are both too big to play inside, but that is a good thing. Jackson is actually 6-4 according to Rivals, so it’s nice to see that the bigger receivers are still coming to Michigan. Many critics of Rich Rodriguez claimed that he would only recruit slot receivers, but obviously they were completely incorrect (if Bryce McNeal wasn’t proof enough).

As I’ve hinted at throughout this post, the expectation is that some great news about Marvin Robinson is coming soon. Should he commit, Michigan would have a possible 5-star in Miller, a probable 4-star in Jackson, and a definite 5-star in Robinson. You can’t start a recruiting class off much better than that.

    Regarding the Marvin/Marcus confusion:

According to the school's roster, they're two separate players and both play the safety position. Please check the link:
