Friday Quick Hits: All Signs Point to Sheridan

  • Although nothing has officially been announced, it appears that Nick Sheridan will start tomorrow against Utah. As I’ve said before, I expect Steven Threet to play as well, but when Michigan takes the field for the first time Sheridan should be the starter.
  • When Michigan has the ball on offense this season the band will not play any music. That is because Michigan will be running the no-huddle, and since communication is so important, the less noise the better. Plus, the band likely wouldn’t have enough time to play at times depending on how quickly the no-huddle is run.
  • The coverage map for ABC’s 3:30 games is out. If you’re in the turquoise the Michigan/Utah game will be on ABC, and if you’re in the yellow it will be on ESPN2.
  • I simmed the 2008 season on NCAA 09 earlier this week, and the results weren’t good at all. Michigan ended up going 7-6 after struggling through the year. The season got off to a good start with wins over Utah and Miami (Ohio), but Michigan went on to lose to Notre Dame, Illinois, Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State in a blowout, and Fresno State in the Insight Bowl.

It is only a video game, but it was interesting to see how things played out. Ohio State won the national title over Missouri. Michigan State lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, which should tell me how inaccurate this simulation was. Oh, and Morgan Trent is a beast at returning kicks. He won the returner of the year award and took 5 or 6 kicks to the house during the season.

  • Stevie Brown, like many of us, changes the channel immediately if it is showing a clip from last year’s season opener.
  • Mediacom and Cox have now come to an agreement with the Big Ten Network.
  • MGoBlog previewed the Michigan defense.

Band story = false. They discussed it, but it’s not an issue. If anything, music will help Michigan get used to distractions, since other teams certainly wouldn’t be as considerate. Besides, the MMB is very team-aware and good at adding music where it works and then getting out of the way quickly when needed.
