Monday Quick Hits: Details of Michigan Replay’s Replacement

  • Fall camp officially begins one week from today.
  • Now that Michigan Replay is gone for good, a new show featuring Rich Rodriguez will air in its place. The show will be called “Inside Michigan Football with Rich Rodriguez,” and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and at midnight Friday on WXYZ (ABC’s Detroit affiliate). Jim Brandstatter will serve as the show’s host.
  • Rich Rodriguez has put together a group of 20 or so players that act as leaders for the entire team. They are called “apostles,” and Morgan Trent had an interesting thing to say about the name.

Trent said he’s glad the team has a larger voice to speak to the coach, though the name is a bit unconventional.

“It’s fine with me,” Trent said. “I don’t think he thinks he’s Jesus or anything. He broke down the word and what it meant.”

  • Former Michigan linebacker Larry Foote, who isn’t afraid to say what is on his mind, ended a recent interview on WDFN with a very memorable statement about Michigan State: “Y’all always gonna suck.” He and Jalen Rose probably would get along quite well. Foote also talked about his time in Ann Arbor during his offseason spent working out with Mike Barwis and a dream he had about the Detroit Lions’ upcoming season.
  • ESPN has uploaded an interview with Rich Rodriguez from last Friday’s College Football Live.
  • The great college football blog Sunday Morning Quarterback will be no more in a couple weeks as Matt Hinton, the author of the site, has been hired to write for a big-time website.
  • Much to the dismay of MGoBlog, Tom Dienhart found out why Rich Rodriguez hired Scott Shafer as his defensive coordinator despite never working together before.
  • Michigan beat Arizona State in the first round of ESPN’s “Helmet Clash.” U-M will go up against Notre Dame or Texas in the nest round.
  • In his White Sox debut last week, Clayton Richard pitched 4 innings and gave up 4 earned runs. He got a no decision for the game.
  • Chad Henne officially signed with the Dolphins.
  • Jeff Meyer, who was an assistant coach at Indiana last season, has been hired as the Michigan basketball team’s administrative specialist.
  • Penn State’s off the field issues were put under a microscope by ESPN.
