Tuesday Quick Hits: Newsome Transfers to New High School
- The Michigan blogosphere lost one of its best yesterday as The M Zone’s Yost decided to hang up the keyboard. The M Zone was one of the first blogs I ever started reading and was a big reason why I created Michigan Sports Center. Had it not been for Yost and company, there is a good chance I never would have gotten into blogging at all.
What was so great about The M Zone was the daily laughs they provided with posts ranging from OSU bashing to Photoshops to anything else that was absolutely hilarious. Who could forget their clash with Colin Cowherd or the creation of the Buckstache.
Anyways, I just want to send out a big thanks to Yost and everyone that wrote posts for The M Zone. Here’s to hoping they someday return.
- Michigan 2009 quarterback commit Kevin Newsome is transferring to a new high school for his senior year to become a better football player. He will be going to the Hargrave Military Academy, a place that is more like a junior college than a high school. Without a doubt, Hargrave will make him more ready for college football when he comes to Michigan in 2009, and on top of that, it gets him away from someone that doesn’t care for Michigan at all: his former high school coach.
His ex-coach sounded understandably upset over losing Newsome to Hargrave, but more than anything he came off as a Michigan hater. He was upset over Newsome ending his recruitment so soon, especially since he didn’t give Virginia Tech that serious of a look. Plus, he didn’t like how Rich Rodriguez supposedly said Newsome was “their guy” before getting a second QB to commit. That statement right there really told me exactly what kind of guy this is as right before Newsome committed he was talking to Tate Forcier about the two possibly playing together. Newsome knew Michigan would be taking a second QB and welcomed the future competition.
This move by Newsome will benefit Michigan on and off the field. Newsome will be a better QB when he comes to Michigan, and now that Kevin no longer will have an anti-Michigan person in his ear all the time, he probably will still end up at Michigan.
- Sam Webb recently interviewed Michigan commit William Campbell, and saying it was entertaining is an understatement. Big Will provided many laughs during the interview, which can be seen below.
- Incoming freshman Michael Shaw is really freaking fast.
- Dann O’Neill, another incoming freshman, will wear #78. (HT: Varsity Blue)
- 2009 Los Angeles basketball recruit Darius Morris is reportedly planning on visiting Michigan this weekend, which could be John Beilein’s chance to lock up a huge commitment from the four-star point guard.
- Hobey Baker Trophy winner Kevin Porter and track national champion Tiffany Ofili were named the University of Michigan’s athletes of the year.
