More Ann Arbor News B.S.

So, the Ann Arbor News released two more articles as a part of day 2 of their 4-day series on Michigan’s athletes and academics. To sum today’s stuff up, it basically is expanding on the point made by Jim Harbaugh last year, so that should tell you all you need to know. The other article is on Brent Petway and how he felt cheated out of having a chance to go to the music school. Basically, it’s some pretty weak stuff.

I’m not even going to bother linking to it as that’s just what the AA News wants, so if you want to read the articles, there is a link to the main section in yesterday’s post. Other than that, I don’t think I have anything more to say on this garbage. Jim Carty and the other writers that worked on this story are hacks, no and’s or but’s about it.

If you want to get in contact with some of the Ann Arbor News’ advertisers to let your displeasure with the paper be known, you can find a list of them here.

The point of the article is not to bash UM, but to point out how hypocritical UM is. When recruits choose not to go to UM, most likely it is NOT b/c of them being an “academic risk” as many sourgrape UM fans claim. Your general student population may be one of the nation’s best, but your athletes can be as dumb as nails and still stay eligible. Where else are you not required to take any math classes??

Nothing will ever happen with the NCAA (if they stay consistent with their treatment of Clarret), so why is everyone having such a hissy fit?

To me, the point of the articles is for SELFISH reasons. (Others: feel free to disagree.) Carty is trying to make a name of himself by putting UM down. My guess is that he is looking to greener pastiers that may pay more than the Ann Arbor papers.

The saddest thing is that this article could actually be relevant and interesting if he would take the time to study other schools, such as MSU, CMU, OSU, or teh SEC…

With no point of comparison, Carty’s article really does not say much about UM’s treatment of athletes.

Is any part of the article false? I think a lot of fans need to get some ethics (and I am not talking about just UM)… This line of reasoning led to Enron.

Just because it happens everywhere does not make it right. If every public company had an accounting scandal, it still would be wrong and the management would get punished by the SEC or PCAOB…
