Monday Quick Hits: Zack Novak Commits to Michigan

  • The Michigan basketball finished the regular season with a 72-58 loss to Purdue yesterday. Michigan actually was leading in the second half, but fell apart just as we have seen many times before. Purdue got hot from three-point land and turned up its defense. With a combination of Purdue not missing and Michigan not being able to score, it’s no surprise that the game wasn’t close at all in the end. (Highlights)
  • On a positive note, the basketball team got its third commitment for the Class of 2008 as Zack Novak verballed to Michigan yesterday. Novak is a shooting guard/small forward, and likes to shoot the three-pointer, making him a perfect fit for Michigan.
“The system they play in is the same thing we run (at Chesterton),” he said. “It fits me pretty well. I really like (Beilein). Michigan’s one of the best universities in the country for sports and academics. It felt like a good fit. They need people to come in and shoot it. If I do what I need to do in the summer, the playing time is going to be there.”

Welcome to Michigan, Zack. (For more on Novak, check out UMHoops)

  • Michigan will face Iowa in the 8-9 match-up of the Big Ten Tournament with the Wolverines being the 9 seed. Michigan split the season series with Iowa as they won on the road and lost at home. Tip-off is scheduled for Thursday at 12:00 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network. For a full look at the bracket, click here.
  • The Michigan hockey team will be playing Nebraska-Omaha in the quarterfinals of the CCHA Tournament. All games of the series are in Ann Arbor, and all it takes to advance to Joe Louis Arena is two wins. The opening game of the series on Friday starts at 7:35 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Comcast. Usually this would mean that the game is on Comcast Local, but that channel no longer exists, so I’m not exactly sure how that will work.
  • Michigan football recruit Mike Martin won a state championship in wrestling.
  • Terrelle Pryor allegedly was involved in a fight after a basketball game on Saturday.
  • For those of you interested in NCAA Football 09, ESPN has the first video footage of this year’s game.

It looks like Pryor is quite the hot head. If he goes to osu or psu, it seems like UM fans and UM’s defense should try to agitate and frustrate him as he has an awful temper.
