Michigan Gets Back to Winning Ways on Jalen Rose Day
Michigan had it’s three-game winning streak snapped with a loss at Minnesota last Thursday, but regrouped against Illinois and got a “W” on Saturday. Before getting into the Illinois game, let’s first look back at Thursday’s game against the Golden Gophers.
For the entire first half, Michigan and Minnesota were trading baskets and the game was very close. Neither team could get a big lead, which really gave Michigan fans hope that the winning streak would continue. That all changed, though, as the second half got going. Michigan suddenly couldn’t hit a shot and just completely fell apart. Minnesota was able to build a big enough lead to start to pull away, and then eventually put the nail in the Wolverines’ coffin as time slowly ran out. It was a good effort by Michigan initially, but in the end the result was an ugly 69-60 loss.
Two days after the loss to Minnesota, Michigan had another ugly game. This time, though, it was a good kind of ugly. The Wolverines battled with Illinois on Jalen Rose Day and ended up winning by a score of 49-43. The low score doesn’t do this game justice as it was really a pain to watch, and I didn’t even see it live. I could sense how bad both teams were playing through the gametracker and radio, so maybe it was a good thing this game was confined to the Big Ten Network. After all, I wasn’t looking to be put to sleep on a Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Michigan improved to 5-10 in the Big Ten and 9-18 overall. The Wolverines have 3 games left this season, with the next one coming tomorrow against an absolutely horrible Northwestern team. The Wildcats haven’t even won a game in the Big Ten yet, so Michigan will hope to keep Northwestern’s losing streak alive. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on the BTN.

UM has a great shot in at least 2 of the 3 games. It will be interesting to see how they finish. It is ashame that we could not play Harvard, Western Ky, CMU, and such again…
