Woods Picks Cincinnati; Wilson Decommits?

Ohio wide receiver D.J. Woods has surprisingly picked Cincinnati over Michigan. Woods was once committed to Nebraska before switching to West Virginia. When Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan, Woods decommitted for a second time and began looking around again. He had Michigan on his list as he would fit in well as a slot receiver in the new offense, but ultimately decided to stay in his home state by picking the Bearcats. One might wonder why he would pick Cincinnati over Michigan for obvious reasons, but I think this is a situation where Woods feels he can be “the man” at Cincinnati immediately rather than possibly down the road at U-M. Regardless, good luck to D.J. in the future as a Bearcat.

Just as Michigan lost out on a recruit, it appears they have lost out on a commit as well. Rumors are swirling that H-back Christian Wilson has decommitted in what appears to be a mutual break-up. Wilson would have fit in the old Michigan offense well but in the spread just doesn’t seem to be that big of a need. I have thought in the past that he could be like a Owen Schmitt type of player, but he is more of a running back than a fullback like Schmitt was. With the decommit appearing to be imminent, Michigan’s recruiting class will shrink to 17 verbals, meaning Rich Rodriguez will need to pick up 8 more commits to fulfill his goal of having a full class of 25. I don’t think that is likely at all, but I’m hoping he gets somewhere around 22 or so commits when signing day rolls around.

This is really shocking news. You have to wonder how much UM really wanted him. I know MSU was not really recruiting Woods, but I did not mention that because it would have made me look like sour grapes.

Woods is really fast from what I heard, but that does not always translate to being a good WR. Morgan Trent was a 4* wr with the same skills, but I did not think he did much at UM. IMO, he was a below average CB. (Correct me if I’m wrong, since I am not a UM football expert by any means. I’m basing my opinions on a handful of games.)

If I had to guess, I bet RR told Woods to wait before committing. (I bet UM has some plan A recruits that RR is waiting on and had he missed out on those recruits, then Woods-the plan B recruit- would get the offer.) I am sure Cincinnati put the clamps on Woods saying that if he waits, then his schollie will go somewhere else. Not wanting to be left out in the cold, Woods committed to Cinci. This is pure speculation, but I find it hard to believe he chose Cinci over UM. If RR REALLY wanted him, he would be a UM commit. Don’t count him out if UM misses on their plan A commits.

I am sure UM has some silent commits. Good luck with the last few weeks of your class! Both MSU and UM are battling the biggest crooks of recuiting. You guys are fighting O$U for Pryor, we are fighting $aban and ‘Bama. UM and MSU both are in battle with the biggest crooks in college football right now: U$C. From what I hear, U$C is leading right now, but he is visiting UM and UM (Miami) in the next few weeks. I am sure he will waffle back and forth many times.

Keep up the great work and sorry for this being so long!

MSU is battling ‘Bama for Ingram and both UM and MSU are battling U$C for Perry. I was not clear about that in my previous post.

How are Woods’ academics? I wonder if Woods was able to get into WVU since they take almost anyone, but perhaps he could not get into UM? The big ten does have higher standards than the other conferences, so that may be another explanation. I am not aware of the academics at Nebraska. (Personally, I think the Big Ten is stupid for having much higher academic standards than the $EC. I would like to see the standards be the same or have the NCAA impose consistent standards for all conferences. That would even the playing field more.)
