Take it for what it’s worth, but Mike Florio (of Pro Football Talk fame; also lives in West Virginia if I remember correctly) is reporting the details of Rich Rodriguez’s contract and the issue of his $4 million buyout.
A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Michigan is paying $3 million of a $4 million buyout of Rich Rodriguez’s contract at West Virginia.
The other $1 million presumably is coming from Rodriguez. Then again, former WVU basketball coach John Beilein managed earlier this year to negotiate his buyout from $2.5 million to $1.5 million.
As we previously reported, Rodriguez will make $2.4 million per year in Ann Arbor.
I would imagine that boosters will help pay for the buyout and that none of it will be paid for by Rodriguez himself. Although it was reported that John Beilein had to pay for his buyout by himself, it is believed that he had help making that payment from some boosters, so I would imagine with this being the football coach, the situation will resolve itself quickly.
