LSU Athletic Director Speaks on Latest Miles Rumors

LSU athletic director Skip Bertman has made comments to newspapers throughout this entire Michigan coaching search any time Les Miles’ name was involved with it. Back when Michigan was asking for permission to speak with Miles, a leak wasn’t the source of that information at all, it was Bertman. He is the complete opposite of Bill Martin, as Bertman seems like a very aggressive person that speaks his mind. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing at all, but it is starting to get a tad irritating.

Since Miles’ name is back out there in regards to the Michigan job, Bertman again is speaking on the situation. He first made an interesting statement about Michigan needing permission again to get in touch with Miles.

If Martin has any interest in talking to Miles now, the athletic director will have to ask again.

“I’d be under the assumption that the permission to speak to Les Miles has expired,” Bertman said Monday. “We’ve signed the contract.”

I can understand where Bertman is coming from in the sense that he wants to do everything possible to keep Miles at LSU, but if he thinks that Michigan hasn’t already talked to the current LSU coach since the contract extension was signed, then he is pretty oblivious. There’s no need in my mind for Martin to take the time to get permission again as it was already granted. Even though an extension was signed since then, that doesn’t change anything in my opinion.

Bertman also made a comment about Bo Schembechler that bothers me as it was just something that didn’t need to be said.

“If Bo Schembechler were here today, I don’t think he could have gotten Les,” Bertman said.

There was just no need to say something like that at all. Again, I get that Bertman says what he thinks, but in this case, that wasn’t a good thing.

Anyways, from reading the article that included these and other comments, it’s pretty clear that Bertman is very adamant about keeping Les Miles at LSU. Whether that happens or not, it would be nice to have an aggressive A.D. for a change that gets things done. I don’t necessarily like some of the things Bertman says, but he knows how to get the job done.

Bertman is a smart guy, smarter than Martin for sure. He is playing the head game with both Martin and Miles.

I can understand wanting to keep your coach expecially if you believe he is a good coach. However, I don’t feel that you should try to keep a coach at all cost when you KNOW that his heart is somewhere else and he WANTS to GO!!! Bertman is a smart guy, but he needs to let go.

Les Miles never should have signed the extension if he wanted the UM job.

Plus he is a shady recruiter with respect to Joseph Barksdale. His church got one big anonymous donation when Barksdale chose LSU over UM. (Then Barksdale got a healthy cut of that donation.)

I don’t want Miles at all! He is a liar and a cheat! I would rather have Brian Kelly or Carolina’s DC!! Plus they would come a lot cheaper!!

Bertman is more than welcomed to talk to English and/or DeBord about their head coaching position that will become open pretty soon.
