Usually when a team has a coaching vacancy, the recruiting class immediately changes. I say that is usually what happens because with Michigan nothing had changed since Lloyd Carr retired. That is, until yesterday. John Wienke, a 4-star quarterback from Illinois, decided to change his commitment from Michigan to Iowa.
“Things weren’t going too well up in Ann Arbor,” Wienke said. “The coaches respected what I had to say; they respected my decision. They don’t know what is going on, and they know I’m doing what’s best for me.”
To be honest, I’m surprised Wienke was still committed here after Steven Threet transferred to Michigan from Georgia Tech. The fact that he did is very important now since some depth will be lost now that Wienke is gone. Either way, good luck to the newest Iowa commit, as his decision to leave is understandable.
