Basketball Quick Hits: Big Ten Play Begins Soon

  • Michigan lost its final non-conference game of the season last Saturday at home against UCLA. U-M actually led at the half and was playing pretty well, but the Bruins were just too much in the second half. Although things were close initially, UCLA went on to win 69-54.
  • Highlights from the loss:
  • Prior to the UCLA game, John Beilein spoke at an alumni function at the Junge Family Champions Center. It was an interesting event and was cool to see Beilein in-person. Also, the Junge Center is very, very nice. I especially liked the 6 flat-screen TVs that were on one of the walls.
  • My seats for the UCLA game were three rows behind the UCLA bench, which was definitely different. I was on TV every time the ball was on the UCLA side of the court and former Bruin/current Piston Aaron Afflalo showed up with a few minutes to go and sat near me. All in all, it was a fun game despite the end result.
  • Laval Lucas-Perry has officially transferred to Michigan. He has started practicing with the team already and was at the UCLA game on Saturday.
  • Alex Legion has transferred to Illinois, so we’ll be seeing him a year from now during Big Ten play in 2009.
  • Speaking of Big Ten play, Michigan opens the 18-game conference slate against Wisconsin on January 2nd at home. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

(They don’t play in Ann Arbor this year, if I am correct.)
