Thursday Quick Hits: More on Scheduling

Apologies for no posting over the last two days, but I’ve been busy with some other stuff. To catch up on everything, here are some quick hits.

  • Michigan’s 2007-08 men’s basketball roster is out. Incoming freshmen Manny Harris is #3 and Kelvin Grady is #44.
  • We learned a couple days ago that Utah was officially on the 2008 football schedule, but now we are getting more details from the deal. For starters, Utah will receive $800,000 to play at the Big House, which is actually more than what the Utes got for playing in the Armed Forces Bowl last season. Also, Michigan and Utah are going to play twice in basketball, with a match up coming in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
  • Speaking of scheduling, Cincinnati is apparently interested in playing Michigan. From an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer (HT: Jim Carty), it is mentioned that the Bearcats have been in contact with Michigan about playing a game at Paul Brown Stadium, which is home to the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. I really don’t want to see Michigan go the route of setting up a series with Cincinnati. If one were to happen, it most likely would be a home game in Ann Arbor and then a return trip to Paul Brown Stadium. A game with Cincinnati at home would be fine, but Michigan has to start scheduling some bigger games that go to different parts of the country and not just the Midwest. We’ll have to see if anything develops down the road with UC.
  • The Big Ten Network held an open house at the Junge Family Champions Center in Ann Arbor yesterday and The Hoover Street Rag was in attendance. HSR goes very in-depth about what exactly went on at the event, so make sure to check it out.
  • Northern Ireland stores aren’t too smart when it comes to American Universities. I guess it’s pretty cool that Michigan shirts are actually sold overseas, but at least get the right logo and colors. (HT: Deadspin)
  • Jim Harbaugh’s big mouth is still open.
