Sam McGuffie Is a Wolverine
Running back Sam McGuffie announced where he is going to play college football last night, and his choice was Michigan. After weeks and weeks of waiting, the elusive speedster finally publicly made his decision known, but the wait was definitely worth it. McGuffie will bring a type of running game to Ann Arbor that hasn’t really been seen there before. Not only can he juke and spin past defenders, but a hurdle isn’t unusual either in the repertoire of the Texas-native.
McGuffie announced on the same show as WR Darryl Stonum, but this time there were hats for each of the five finalists laying out on the table and no negative recruiting hosts, thankfully. Sam picked up the Michigan hat and said he was going to the University of Michigan, and then had this to say as to why he made that choice.
“I went to University of Michigan a couple weeks ago and you know, I fell in love with it. The coaches — Coach Jackson — and the running back staff, and all the Michigan Wolverines. It’s just a place where I can come in as a freshman and be an impact player.”
As far as recruiting goes, this is a huge pick up by the Wolverines. McGuffie is only given 4 stars by both Scout and Rivals, but many feel that has to do with the fact that he is white. I mean, we don’t really see a lot of great white running backs, but that shouldn’t be a factor in what a player is rated. Logic Times wrote a great post about this very issue and compared McGuffie’s stats to some of the nation’s other great running backs from the Class of 2008 and shows that he is a 5-star caliber player.
Regardless of what the “experts” rate him, we all should know that Michigan is getting a great player in Sam McGuffie. I can’t wait for him to be on the field to form the Texas trio with quarterback Ryan Mallett and wide receiver Darryl Stonum. It should be a fun few years in the future for the Michigan offense thanks to these three players.
Finally, just to remind everyone of what exactly Sam McGuffie can do on the field, here is his mixtape from YouTube. Even if you have seen it a thousand times, it never gets old.
