Brent Petway Drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters
I’m not sure if this is necessarily a good thing, but Brent Petway was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters. This is the first year the Globetrotters have held a draft to add players to the team. With five picks, they selected Petway, Anthony Atkinson (Barton College), Sun Ming Ming (the 7’9″ Chinese player), Mario West (Georgia Tech; beat Petway in slam dunk contest), and Marcus Kennedy (Montevallo).
Petway is actually apart of the Atlanta Hawks’ summer league, so I imagine he will give the NBA a try before going down this path. Hopefully in the future, now that John Beilein is coach, players are drafted by NBA teams, not the Harlem Globetrotters.

UPDATE: I just ran across the Big 10 Blog over at the Detroit News’ site and thankfully, Petway isn’t considering the Globetrotters:
Here’s what Craig, who claims Petway is an “NBA-level talent,” said about his client: “We really haven’t considered it, don’t know if we would. Brent is interested in playing competitive basketball and that’s where we are advising him. That’s not any disrespect to the Harlem Globetrotters, but Brent’s heart lies first in putting all his energy in playing competitively for the Atlanta Hawks and their summer program.”
Also included in that link is a posting about the Maize Rage, stating that they would like to expand for next season. I couldn’t agree with that more, it’s time to give Michigan a home-court advantage when playing at Crisler.

Sad but funny. Pretty much sums up UM’s bball program under Amaker.
