Even Michigan Isn’t Calling It a Game Anymore
The University of Michigan released the final details regarding this weekend’s spring game yesterday. One interesting thing aside from the information provided is the fact that it is called an open practice rather than a game. Even the athletic department is acknowledging the fact that the spring game is really nothing more than a public opportunity to watch drills and a scrimmage. This year is especially like that considering the countless number of injuries.
While on the topic of injuries, there is some bad news to report from the running back position. Kevin Grady has suffered a very serious injury that will leave him sidelined for an extended period of time. The injury is rumored to be something with the ACL after he suffered a hit from Brandon Graham. This is bad news not only because Grady was apparently playing much better this spring, but the running back position is very thin right now. Mike Hart has sat out the spring after having surgery in the offseason and it was really only Brandon Minor and Kevin Grady after him on the depth chart after so many others changed positions. The only thing that may change after this is Carlos Brown’s status. Rumors have strongly suggested the he will transfer, but with a spot at running back opening back up, he could move back and see playing time. We’ll just have to wait on that to play out.
Getting back to the final spring practice, here are the details:
The 2007 University of Michigan football team will conclude its annual spring drills with an open practice on Saturday (April 14) at Michigan Stadium. The final spring practice session begins at 12:30 p.m. EDT and is free and open to the public. Gates 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9 will open to the public at 11 a.m.
Fans are asked to sit on the east, west and south sides of the stadium as a portion of the north end zone is under construction to replace the cement bleachers. Restrooms and concessions will be available on the east and west sides.
Parking will be available in the Blue lot around Crisler Arena as well as at Pioneer High School (located on the corner of Stadium Blvd. and Main Street).
I strongly encourage you all to attend the final spring practice on Saturday as it is one of the few free things involving Michigan football. Not only do you get the chance to watch football at the Big House but you get a great look at the team.

Losing Grady isn’t good. While Miner outplayed him in spots last season, Grady is still a special talent with a lot of potential, and anytime you have a running back with a potential ACL problem, it can really be devastating.
And I agree, running back depth may be a bit of a concern right now, but come the fall I think we’ll be fine. Hart will be healthy by then and if Grady’s injury opens the door back up for Brown, even better.
I’m more concerned about making sure Arrington rejoins the team. If he doesn’t turn his act around, Michigan’s going to have some issues on offense.
