Michigan’s hockey team had a rough December as the wins were scarce, but the overall play has been great lately. The Wolverines have won 6 consecutive games after a sweep of Western Michigan this weekend and have won 9 of its last 11 as well. Things are looking much better as the season’s end nears.

This past weekend, as stated above, Michigan won both of its games against the Broncos of Western Michigan. These two games were important simply because the wins have to keep coming for Michigan.

In game 1, the Maize and Blue beat WMU in a high-scoring affair. Goals weren’t hard to come by as Michigan ended up winning 7-4, just simply outscoring the Broncos. In game 2 on Senior Night, which came very early this year, Michigan went into the third period tied at 1-1. However, just 5 or so minutes in, David Rohlfs scored while Michigan was shorthanded to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead. Michigan would add an empty netter in the final minute for good measure to take home a 3-1 win. The Wolverines now hold a record of 21-9-0.

The final stretch of the season includes a long road/neutral site trip with Michigan not returning hope until the CCHA Tournament. The schedule includes a game at Bowling Green this Friday, versus Michigan State in Detroit this Saturday, an away game and game in Detroit next week against Lake Superior State, and finally closing the season with two games at Ohio State in two weeks.
