Three Wolverines Help North Win 27-0 in Senior Bowl

The annual Senior Bowl was played on Saturday and was good to the North team. When the final whistle was blown, the North won by a score of 27-0, blowing out the South. On the North, three Wolverines played during the game on defense and each recorded at least 3 tackles.

Leon Hall led the way for Michigan by winning the North defensive MVP as he had 4 tackles and 1 pass breakup. Next was David Harris, who was the co-leader of the North in total tackles with 5, one of which being for a loss. Finally, Prescott Burgess had 3 tackles to round off a solid showing for the boys in Maize and Blue. LaMarr Woodley, who would’ve been the fourth Wolverine in the Senior Bowl, sat out the game with a pulled hamstring.

Aside from their performances during the game, much was said, some good and some bad, about these future NFL players. Here’s a look at what the experts had to say about Michigan’s four players from practice leading up to the game.

Leon Hall (CB)

Scout.com:

Scouts expected a lot more than what they got. Forget about being a top-10 pick, most feel Hall could fall as far as number 18.

Mel Kiper Jr.:

Michigan DB Leon Hall is smooth and displays good hands and hips, but is a little slow in transitioning. He doesn’t have an explosive burst. His combine and individual workouts will be important. Hall is a good, solid football player. (mid-Round 1)

David Harris (LB)

Scout.com:

Played better than expected and secured himself as a top-75 pick.

Mel Kiper Jr.:

Productive. Great run defender. Questionable in coverage. (Round 3 or 4)

Prescott Burgess (LB)

Mel Kiper Jr.:

Doesn’t wow, but consistently makes plays. (Day 2)

LaMarr Woodley (DL)

Scout.com:

Dropping like a rock. Scouts felt Woodley was intimidated after his poor start in Monday and used his hamstring injury as a convenient excuse. Some now grade him as a third-round pick.

Mel Kiper Jr.:

Relentless. Good rush instincts. (late-Round 1 to mid-Round 2)

Yahoo! Sports:

He came in a little shorter than expected and then struggled to show the explosive burst that made him such a fierce pass rusher in the Big Ten the past four years. His slow start to the week got worse when he was sidelined with a slight hamstring injury, but team doctors say if he misses Saturday’s game it will be for precautionary measures. Woodley does not seem flexible enough to move back to outside linebacker, and his best plays come moving forward and attacking the line of scrimmage. His 40 times next month will determine how high he will go, but it now seems as if he is not on the first-round level.

Make sure to check back in with MSC during the combine next month and the draft in April for updates of the NFL status of these four and other Michigan players.
