Florida Not Too Good With Roman Numerals

The Florida PR department has had its troubles in the past when promoting the football program, and they’re back at it again. It all started back in 2003 when they infamously put a crocodile on the cover of their media guide, mistakenly instead of an alligator, which is what their mascot actually is. It was a very embarrassing mishap that gave a lot of people a good laugh.

It wasn’t placing the wrong mascot on something, but it did have to do with a mistake in printing. The University of Florida, partnering with Pepsi, decided to pass out shirts as a part of a giveaway to students picking up their season tickets. The shirt is celebrating 100 years of the University of Florida, and was to have the year 2006 on the bottom of it in Roman numerals. On the actual shirt, it said “XXVI,” unfortunately for Florida, that translates to 26. I don’t think that Florida was established back in the year 26. The correct way to say 2006 in Roman numerals is “MMVI.”

Realizing their mistake, Florida halted the promotion and returned some 21,000 shirts back to Pepsi. I guess this is just another case of bad marketing by the Gators. I wonder what their next mistake will be…

Don’t really wanna be the first to post on your blog but will any way.

If you really cared about objectivity and unbias you might want to google your facts.

You will see that the pepsi advertising company is responsible for the screwup and is recalling all the shirts. New ones will be sent at no charge.

The croc was our mistake.. to embarrassing don’t want to comment on that one.

I understand that Pepsi made the shirts, but that doesn’t change the fact that it went through Florida to be checked and no one caught the mistake. Either way.
