Willie Williams Not Going to West Virginia
Last week, Miami Hurricanes linebacker Willie Williams asked for a release from his scholarship. After being granted the release, reports surfaced that he would transfer to West Virginia because of a story published on Yahoo! Sports. Yahoo! was claiming that Williams would be transferring to the school after sitting out spring drills because of a knee surgery. West Virginia will be a contender for the BCS Championship and an almost lock for the Big East crown. Landing a player like Williams would have certainly helped their defense in years to come.
It all turns out that the story on Yahoo! had no credibility. Yesterday, the Charleston Gazette reported that those claims were all false. Even West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez came out and said that the reports were wrong. Williams did call Rodriguez expressing interest, but the University declined the offer. Tennessee did the same thing. There’s just too much baggage to take on a player like Williams, who has been injured, and also has eleven entries on his arrest record.
You know, it was originally Yahoo! Sports that “investigated” the minor Reggie Bush scandal, which went no where at all. After this report turned out to be nothing, I’m sure that the next Yahoo! Sports report involving a big college football story will be looked upon with some suspicion.
