Legion Transfers to Oak Hill; Decommits from Michigan
Alex Legion, a prized recruit, and the top high school junior in the state of Michigan, is changing his mind on a few things. First off, after being upset about things at Detroit Country Day, he will transfer to Oak Hill (Virginia) Academy. Oak Hill is known for producing great talent in the college ranks, and the pros. The most recent NBA success from Oak Hill is Carmelo Anthony, the star player of the Denver Nuggets.
Legion also decommits from Michigan and opens back up his recruitment. That doesn’t necessarily mean Michigan’s out of it completely, but it doesn’t bode well for the maize and blue. Legion was the highest-ranked recruit that Amaker had ever landed during his time at Michigan, ranked in the top 15 of the country.
This is the 3rd highly-ranked player to decommit from Michigan during the Tommy Amaker era at Michigan. Joe Crawford and Al Horford both gave commitments to Michigan, then changed their minds and went somewhere else. If you remember back to Monday, Al Horford played a key role in the national championship for the Florida Gators, so that was a huge loss for Michigan.
Alex Legion was to be the best recruit of the 2007 class, to go along with Kelvin Grady of East Grand Rapids High School. Legion will take a look at his options now, and we’ll see where he ends up. One player this reminds me off is Jamal Crawford, a great Michigan player from the 1999-2000 season. Crawford lived with his mentor, and also had put his name on a NBA draft list, making him ineligible for a good period of time. Alex Legion also lives with his mentor. He can’t put his name on any draft lists as you have to be 20 years old or attend one year of college, but just keep an eye on that.
My take on Alex Legion is that if his character is this bad, where he will transfer high schools for playing time issues, and also decommit; then do we really want him? I certainly don’t want a player that will cause more controversy then anything else.
